These photos show the damage caused by Typhoon Melor, referred to as Typhoon No. 18 in Japan, which has been moving up the Japanese archipelago after making landfall near the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture on early Oct. 8.

This is the first typhoon to directly hit the archipelago since September 2007, and brought strong winds and heavy rain to wide areas of Honshu.
